Guest Post from Jin of Superficially Colorful

Hi guys!  Today's guest post is from my awesome friend Jin.  She runs the blog Superfically Colorful, as well as makes some totally epic thermal polishes (which are not available for purchase at the moment, sorry, but you can have a look at some swatches here!).  I love the unique nail art that Jin is always doing, and she is someone you really need to be following!

Hello Dearest readers!
I am so honored and excited to be here today, while Smashley is having lots of fun in her vacation! Or at least - I hope she does ;-)
I'm Jin from Superficially Colorful and I have a little special mani for you today.
Bondi New York The Limelight freehand cats
I started this mani with Bondi New York polish - The Limelight, a gorgeous, bright lime green creme that has a perfect formula and is opaque in two easy coats.

Then I stamped a few of what I consider to be kitty-related items on my nails, using Sally Hansen White On. However, when I top-coated it (with Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat), the lime green bled into the white and it turned the stamping to be very subtle in the background. I didn't quite plan that, but I can't say it ruined anything. I like the way it turned out.

And then I drew some kitties on these background. I admit I am not original. I saw those kitties here and I simply fell in love! so I had to try them too! However, on my thumb I didn't feel like painting another cat so I continued with the kitty-related items and drew a ball of wool instead.

I know that Ashley likes cats and I know she misses her babies very much while in the US, so this is just a little kitty-kiss for her, and I hope that you will come back safely and after you have recharged yourself completely

Thank you Jin, this mani is just the cutest, and you're right about me missing my babies!  This made my day, though!

  2. I hope there was credit to the original design. Another sad incident.

    1. Hi! Thanks for your concern. If you had read the post you would see that there is indeed a link to the original design. The best bloggers are always glad to give credit where credit is due. :)

    3. were you not suppose to indicate the name of the source where you took the pictures and not just write "here"?

    4. Since I don't know the person who originally did this design, i could not have mentioned their name. I did however made sure to link back to them.
I'm sorry if anyone got offended, but honestly, with all due respect, no one has copyrights over a nail art design of cats. I did give credit where credit was due and that should be enough.

    5. Mike, that may be true had she used any photos from someone else, but she didn't "take the pictures" from anyone. She merely got the IDEA from something she saw. Technically, no link was required at all if you want to get picky. But as a common courtesy, most good bloggers do try to link back to the post where they got the inspiration.

    6. I don't want this to get out of hand. But also do not want to let the opportunity pass without leaving a word here. If it were not because of my blog's readers, I would have not landed here.

Through the years that I have been a nail art blogger, I became a victim of several copyright infringement to the point that I sought legal counsel to fully understand my rights and how I can protect my nail art designs. I have blogged all about copyright here -- http://www.rina-alcantara.com/2012/03/understanding-copyright-infringement.html

Copyright does not only entail ownership of photos. As an artist, we are also protected by copyight on the nail design itself. And this a matter that I think is widely misunderstood. Yes, we can come out with several cat nail designs. But how the cats were painted, the position, the colors, and other details is an outcome of the artist's imagination. This is reason why some artists encourage others who got their inspiration from them to at least mention"inspired by ". It is not necessary. But it is in my opinion, the proper way to credit an artist.

Thank you for the link and for keeping an open mind as you read this. :)
